Update the App

Fours releases new versions of the Dynamics 365 App. Each new version installs over the installed one, by an automatic update or by a System Administrator. Users do not install anything.

Versions

Each version of the Fours for Dynamics 365 solution has a number with four parts, for example 1.2.0.0. Each new version has a higher number than the one before it. Dataverse upgrades the installed solution only to a higher version. It refuses a version that is the same or lower.

To see the installed version, go to make.powerapps.com and select your environment. Then select Solutions and find Fours for Dynamics 365 in the list. The Version column shows the number.

During the preview: import the newer file

Until the AppSource listing is live, you get each new version as a managed solution file from your Fours account team.

  1. Get the managed solution file of the new version from your Fours account team.
  2. Go to make.powerapps.com and select your environment.
  3. Select Solutions > Import solution.
  4. Select Browse, select the new file, and then select Next.
  5. Select Import.

The version in the file is higher than the installed version, so Dataverse upgrades the installed solution. If the import fails because the version is not higher, ask your Fours account team for the newest file.

After the AppSource listing is live

When the app is on AppSource, you get new versions from AppSource. You can turn on automatic updates once, or update by hand.

Turn on automatic updates

  1. Go to the Power Platform admin center and select your environment.
  2. Select Settings > Updates > App update settings.
  3. Turn on the toggle.
  4. Select the publisher Fours.
  5. Select Save.

Each new version that Fours publishes to AppSource then installs outside business hours.

Update by hand

  1. Go to the Power Platform admin center and select your environment.
  2. Select Resources > Dynamics 365 apps.
  3. Select Fours for Dynamics 365, and then select Update.

What stays the same after an update

A newer version keeps the configuration of the installed app. The connection that Fours wrote into the environment stays, and so do the security roles that you assigned. You do not connect Dynamics 365 again, and you do not assign the roles again.

After an update

Users reload the Dynamics 365 page to load the new version of the pane and its dialogs. For a while after an update, Dynamics 365 can keep the previous version in its cache. A normal reload does not always load the new version.

If a user still sees the previous version, reload with Cmd+Shift+R on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows. If the previous version still shows, wait a while and reload again.
