# Pre-Authorized Auto-Renewal

Let an AWS agreement renew on terms the buyer already agreed to, instead of negotiating a new private offer each cycle.

---

## Overview

**Pre-authorized auto-renewal (PAR) is a renewal term carried on the private offer itself.** The buyer accepts the renewal rules once, when they accept the offer; AWS then renews the agreement on those rules without a new offer, a new acceptance, or a new signature.

There are two halves, and they live in different places:

| | Where | Who |
| --- | ----- | --- |
| **Configure the terms** | The offer form, before the buyer accepts. Terms are fixed at acceptance. | Seller |
| **Manage the renewal** | The **Renewal** section on the entitlement, after the buyer accepts. | Seller |

Renewal terms can be configured from the Fours Console, the [Fours Salesforce app](/salesforce-app/salesforce-app-offer/) and the [Fours HubSpot app](/hubspot-app/hubspot-app-offer/).

## Which offers can carry renewal terms

The **Configure renewal terms** section appears only on an eligible offer. It is not a setting you can switch on — eligibility is decided by the offer itself:

| Requirement | Detail |
| ----------- | ------ |
| **Offer type** | `CONTRACT`, `PROFESSIONAL_SERVICES`, or `CONTAINER`. |
| **Not an AMI product** | AWS offers no auto-renewal for AMI products, so an AMI offer never shows the section. |
| **Has commits** | The offer must carry at least one committed dimension. |
| **Not a resale authorization** | CPPO offers are excluded. |
| **Not agreement-based** | An offer created from an existing agreement is excluded. |

:::note
Usage dimensions do not disqualify an offer: an offer that carries committed **and** usage dimensions still shows the section. Whether AWS accepts a renewal term for the offer's pricing model is AWS's decision, made when the offer is created. If AWS refuses it, the create fails with *"AWS does not support a renewal term for this offer's pricing model. Create this offer again without the pre-authorized renewal term."*
:::

## Configure renewal terms

### Renewal option

Pick one:

| Option | What it means |
| ------ | ------------- |
| **No price uplift** | Renew at the same price each cycle. |
| **Price uplift** | Increase pricing by a fixed percentage, or within a pre-negotiated range, each cycle. |
| **No renewal** | Do not include auto-renewal terms with this offer. |

### Price uplift type

**Price uplift** asks for one of two shapes:

| Uplift type | Fields | Rules |
| ----------- | ------ | ----- |
| **Fixed percentage** | **Price increase percentage** | 0–100, at most two decimal places. |
| **Percentage range** | **Minimum**, **Maximum** and **Default** uplift percentage | Each 0–100. **Minimum must be less than Maximum**, and **Default must fall inside the range**. |

A **percentage range** is what makes the renewal adjustable later: it is the pre-negotiated band the seller may move the final figure within before each renewal. A **fixed percentage** has nothing to adjust.

In the Fours Console, choosing **Percentage range** pre-fills a 5%–30% band with a 10% default, which you can change. If no value is finalized before the adjustment deadline, the default is charged automatically at renewal — and it compounds on the previous cycle's price.

### Renewal decision deadline and adjustment deadline

Both are a number of days measured back from the agreement's end date, and both bound *when* the seller may still act:

| Field | What it bounds | Constraint |
| ----- | -------------- | ---------- |
| **Renewal decision deadline** (optional) | The lockout period: after this point neither party can opt out of the renewal. | Opens empty. Left blank, AWS uses its own default, the agreement expiration date. If you set it, it must be **greater than zero** and **shorter than the contract duration**. |
| **Adjustment deadline** | After this point the uplift percentage can no longer be changed. | **Required** for a percentage range, and must be **greater than the renewal decision deadline**. Choosing **Percentage range** pre-fills it with the renewal decision deadline plus 30 days — or 30 days when that field is blank. |

Because the adjustment deadline is more days before the end date, it falls *earlier* on the calendar than the renewal decision deadline. That is the point of the pair: the uplift is settled first, while either side can still decide not to renew.

The contract duration these fields are checked against is the offer's own term — its typed length, or the span between its start and end dates when you set the term by dates.

### Renewal count

**Renewal count** is either **Definite** — a specific number of renewals, at least 1 — or **Indefinite**, which renews until someone stops it.

### Renewal payment schedule

An offer with installments can carry a renewal payment schedule, so each renewed term is invoiced on the same rhythm as the first:

- At most **86** installment entries.
- Each entry's **% of total** is between **0.01 and 100**, with at most two decimal places.
- The entries must **total exactly 100%**. A schedule that totals 99.99% is rejected rather than rounded.

In the Fours Console, the section opens only when the offer actually has installments; a single-payment offer has no schedule to renew.

**The schedule starts from the offer's own installments.** In the Fours Console, when the section opens, each installment of the offer becomes an entry timed from the start of the agreement and carrying its share of the total. Entries are timed in months; if two installments fall in the same month, the whole schedule is timed in exact days instead, and installments on the same date become one entry. While you are still changing the offer's installments, the schedule follows them. Once you edit the schedule itself, your entries are kept as you left them — and an offer you reopen with a saved renewal schedule keeps that schedule.

In the Fours Console, one unit applies to the whole schedule. Choose **By month** or **By exact days** beside the **Renewal Payment Scheduler** button, which generates up to 86 equal installments; the column heading reads **Months after agreement start** or **Days after agreement start** to match. When the offer's installments carry amounts, the schedule also shows:

- **Original contract total** and **Contract duration** above the entries — the figures the entries are measured against.
- An **Estimated first renewal cycle payment amount** on every entry, in the offer's currency: the entry's share of the contract total after one cycle of uplift.

## Manage the renewal after acceptance

Once the buyer accepts, the terms are on the agreement and the entitlement grows a **Renewal** section with two tabs.

### Renewal details

| Field | What it tells you |
| ----- | ----------------- |
| **Renewal status** | Whether the agreement is set to renew. |
| **Renewal pricing** | The uplift shape that was agreed — none, fixed, or a range. |
| **Price uplift range** | The pre-negotiated minimum and maximum, on a range term. |
| **Default uplift percentage** | Where inside the range the uplift sits if nobody adjusts it. |
| **Uplift status** | Whether the uplift for the next renewal is settled: **Pending uplift** on a percentage-range term until it is finalized; **Finalized** with the date once you publish it or AWS finalizes it at the adjustment deadline; plain **Finalized** for a fixed-percentage or no-uplift term, which has nothing to adjust. |
| **Renewal count** | Definite (with the number) or Indefinite. |
| **Lockout date** | The date after which opting out is no longer possible. **N/A** when the offer left the renewal decision deadline blank — AWS then uses the agreement expiration date. |
| **Adjustment deadline** | The date after which the uplift can no longer be changed. |
| **Next renewal date** | When the next term begins. |
| **Renewal disabled reason** | Shown only when the agreement will *not* renew, and says why. |

When the offer carried one, a **Renewal payment schedule** table follows: contract duration, number of installments, and a row per installment with its payment timing and **% of total**.

### Renewal history

The **Renewal history** tab lists the chain of agreements — each renewal produced its own agreement ID, and the previous agreement is named. When Fours has not yet read a predecessor in the chain, the tab says **Predecessor pending** rather than showing a broken chain.

### Adjust uplift %

Sets the uplift for the next renewal inside the pre-negotiated range.

Offered only when **all** of these hold:

- the term is a **percentage range** — a no-uplift or fixed-percentage term has nothing to adjust;
- the agreement has **not yet passed its adjustment deadline**;
- the uplift has **not been finalized** yet — once it is, the action disappears;
- the entitlement is live, has no pending cancellation, and has not been opted out of auto-renewal.

**Adjust uplift %** opens the **Adjust renewal uplift** dialog. Its summary shows the agreed **Uplift range**, the **Default uplift** and the **Adjustment deadline**, and the tables below it preview each line's price at the next renewal. The prices are a preview; Fours computes the final amounts and AWS validates them.

- **Target uplift percentage** — one flat uplift for the renewal.
- **Set an uplift per dimension** — price lines individually instead. Each line starts at the range default; change any line to price it differently.
  - On an offer **without installments**, the switch covers every contract and usage dimension and replaces the flat uplift.
  - On an offer **with installments**, the **Target uplift percentage** always prices the payment schedule, and the switch applies to usage dimensions only. With it off, usage takes its own **Usage uplift percentage**.

Every value must stay within the agreed range; the dialog flags one that doesn't (*"Uplift must be between …% and …%."*). Then choose how to submit:

| Action | What happens |
| ------ | ------------ |
| **Save as draft** | Saves the repriced renewal offer without releasing it to the buyer. The status stays **Pending uplift**, and reopening the dialog picks up the saved values. |
| **Publish** | Asks you to confirm — *"Publishing releases this renewal offer to the buyer and notifies them immediately. This action is irreversible."* — then releases it. The status becomes **Finalized** with the date, and **Adjust uplift %** is no longer offered. |

```d2
direction: down
accepted: "Buyer accepts an offer\nwith a percentage-range term"
pending: "Uplift status: Pending uplift"
draft: "Saved draft\nrepriced, not released to the buyer\n(status stays Pending uplift)"
reminder: "Reminder notification\nonce per renewal cycle,\nfrom 30 days before the deadline"
finalized: "Uplift status: Finalized, with the date"
accepted -> pending
pending -> draft: "Adjust uplift %, Save as draft"
pending -> finalized: "Adjust uplift %, Publish\n(irreversible; releases the renewal offer)"
draft -> finalized: "Publish"
pending -> finalized: "Adjustment deadline passes:\nAWS finalizes at the default uplift"
pending -> reminder: "while not finalized" { style.stroke-dash: 4 }
```

### Opt out of auto-renewal

Stops the agreement renewing. Unlike the uplift adjustment this applies to **any** renewal term — stopping a renewal is independent of how it was priced — but it must happen **before the lockout date**.

:::warning
**Opting out is not reversible from Fours.** Once the renewal is off, restoring it means a new offer.
:::

### Both take effect asynchronously

AWS propagates a renewal change on its own schedule, so neither action is reflected the moment you confirm it. Give it a few minutes and refresh the entitlement; the **Renewal details** tab shows the state AWS has actually recorded, not what was requested.

### Reminder before the adjustment deadline

So a percentage-range uplift is not left to the default by accident, Fours reminds you while it is still **Pending uplift**. A daily check sends one reminder per entitlement cycle, beginning 30 days before the deadline. It uses the entitlement notification scope `RENEW_UPLIFT_PENDING.ENTITLEMENT`: the email's subject reads *"Action needed: finalize your renewal price uplift"* followed by the entitlement name, and Slack or Microsoft Teams receive it too if you route that scope there. Once the uplift is finalized, no reminder is sent.

The email goes out only when **Enable Email Notification** is on for your organization and the scope's row is enabled with recipients — see [Email Notification](/settings/email-notification/).

## What the buyer sees

The renewal produces a **new agreement**, not an extension of the old one. The buyer's original agreement ends on its end date and the renewed agreement starts alongside it — which is why a renewed customer has more than one agreement in their AWS console, and why the entitlement list shows a new entitlement rather than a moved end date.
